DIY RULER GROWTH CHART

DIY RULER GROWTH CHART

Hey guys! I hope you’re all having a great week! I’m going to show you how I made this DIY growth chart ruler. I didn’t have a cricut machine, vinyl numbers, or anything like that. So I’m going to show you how I made this DIY Growth chart ruler with a pencil, paper, and a sharpie. That’s right, no need for a cricut machine for this! This project only cost me $3 to make because I had everything but the board-on hand.

*I’m coming in with updated pictures since we have moved into our new home and I was able to get better pictures. I tell Jayli to pose and this is what she does, lol! She is so theatrical, I love it!*

I know this project is soooooooo popular and you have probably already seen these floating around everywhere.  I’ve been wanting to make one for a really long time, I was just so intimidated by it. I was scared I would mess it up or that it wouldn’t look right because I don’t have a dye-cutting machine. But I am so happy with how this turned out and I’m so glad I finally did it. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. If you’ve been hesitant about trying this out for the same reasons, hopefully this will give you the motivation and encouragement to just do it.

What you need:

1x6x6 wood board
Wood stain (I used Minwax in Espresso 273)
Ruler
Pencil
Printed Numbers 1-6 (get yours here)
Sharpie
Tape measure

Directions:

First, you need to stain your board.  I wanted the board to be dark, so I chose Espresso from Minwax. I just rubbed the stain on with an old rag and let it dry. If you want yours darker you can leave the stain on longer.

Next, take your tape measure and mark a line at every inch with a pencil.

Make every 3rd line 2 inches long with your ruler. Make all the other lines just one inch long.

Trace your numbers with a sharp pencil.

Go over your pencil marks with a sharpie

I printed out the numbers, cut them out, and then drew over the numbers on the back side of the paper with pencil. Get your numbers here.

Then, I positioned number 1 onto the wood right side up on the 2nd 2″ line. I traced the outline with pencil, removed the number and was left with a faint stencil that I traced over with pencil to make darker.

I then took my sharpie and traced over the pencil marks and colored in the numbers.

For number 2-6, skip three 2″ marks and draw the numbers on each 4th 2″ mark

Hang your DIY Growth Chart 6″ off the floor and affix it with ribbon or a sawtooth hanger to hang it onto the wall. I haven’t decided where I want to hang it in my new my home, yet.

This would make a great present for baby showers and birthdays!

I know this project is very popular and I’m wondering, have you made this project yet?
