Welcome back to week 2 of my kitchen makeover series. I’m honestly not sure how many parts this series will be (because I have so many creative DIY decorating ideas!!!), but we’re going with it.
In this weeks video I’ll be sharing my inexpensive DIY home decor ideas, my vision for the kitchen, and I’m going to walk you through the entire process of this DIY eclectic kitchen makeover on a budget. And by the end of the video, you’ll start to see my vision all come together.
But before we get into it, I wanted to take a minute to thank you for the kind comments and encouraging words you left me in last weeks video. After being gone for 3 years, I was nervous about posting a new video. I had hesitated sharing anything for so long because you never really know how your content will be received when you come back after being gone for so long. I’ve shared different things on different platforms and didn’t know how to make all the social media platforms cohesive. I was all up in my head. But, instead of continuing to me “all up in my head,” I just did it. Even though I still don’t know what this will become, how the content will morph together, or what it will turn into…. it feels so good to be back. It feels good to be doing the things I love, and I fully enjoy sharing my work with you.
YouTube has always had a special place in my heart and it’s honestly….my favorite platform. So, it feels good to be back. Thank you again for your kind and encouraging comments.
Alright, let’s kick this video off with a super fun, eclectic, and affordable home decor haul. If you’re into the bold, maximalist, eclectic, funky home decor (like I am), you don’t want to miss this *mini* Five Below haul that I share. I’ve shared these disco ball home decor pieces several times, but I just can’t get enough of them.

DISCO BALL STRING LIGHTS | CANDLE HOLDER
Would you believe me if I told you that these disco ball string lights are from Five Below? They’re seriously the coolest find! They are 6′ in length and come with a battery pack to light up, but honestly, I don’t even use the battery pack. I like them just as they are.
There’s so many fun ways to style these and I’m sure I will love on these for years to come…finding different places for them when I get bored and want a refresh. I could see them hanging in a door frame, draped over a mirror, on top of a dresser, on a bookshelf, in a tray, and draped over the window frame.

I’ve talked about these before, and I will talk about them forever. They’re one of my all-time favorite finds. There’s so many reasons I love these disco ball plant hangers. First off, they have a flat bottom so you can take them off the hanger and set them on a flat surface. There’s 3 different styles to choose from. They make every space more fun. And for only being $5, they are pretty good quality.

Do you love these eclectic fun home decor items from Five Below as much as I do?! Because if so, you will need to check back next week when I share my all time favorite finds from Five Below.
But this week, we’re going to dive into part 2 of the kitchen makeover. Last week, we installed the wallpaper.
This week, we are decorating above the kitchen cabinets.
I first started painting wall above the top of the cabinets the same color as the background of the wallpaper I installed last week.
The good news is that I ordered more wallpaper and was able to finish off the wall.
But then….
I felt like we had no personality in this space.
We don’t have very much wall space to hang photos in this house due to a lot of windows. I really wanted to add a lot of family photos because they bring me so much happiness when I see them on the wall.
I had a vision for hanging black and white photos above the kitchen cabinets. I wanted it to give off a vintage, retro, newspaper-type vibe. I measured the space between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling to see what size photos I would need. The biggest photo size I could put there is 8×10’s.

WALLPAPER | STRING LIGHTS | VELVET VALANCE
I printed off 22 black and white photos off at Walgreens (and ended up going back for 24 more). I was able to save 50% by using code 50PRINT.
Application was really easy.
I just applied these prints with tape. I absolutely love the way it looks.

I wanted to add something more, so I added these string lights. These string lights are my favorite string lights for several different reasons. First off, these string lights are 49′ long. That’s pretty long. Secondly, these lights have 8 different modes. I prefer the ‘always on’ as opposed to the blinking & flickering effects. I love that these string lights are plug-in. They come with a remote. They’re not heating LED so it doesn’t matter how long I leave them on, they never get hot. I had these string lights in my apartment and kept them in my living room and it was such a vibe. I had them in my bedroom before moving them out to my kitchen. One order of these string lights fit in my kitchen perfectly…with room to drape them across the windows.

I’m super happy with how this kitchen is coming together. But, if I didn’t share this house with a man, I would probably paint the kitchen cabinets pink. Honestly.

STRING LIGHTS | VELVET VALANCE
I didn’t show these luxurious velvet valance window coverings in this weeks video, but I am absolutely in love with them. They are the perfect weight, color, material, and style. The tassels on the bottom edge was the selling point for me. Well…and the fact that they are VELVET. omg. Seriously. I am a sucker for velvet. It’s everything I wanted in this space.

I took these pictures in a hurry and still have a lot of styling to do, but I wanted to show you the progress that I’m making. Like I said, I’m really happy with how it’s coming together and I am enjoying the process.

I have a super fun idea for the two boob lights in the kitchen, but will need to test out some DIY light fixtures before fully committing to it. If I was planning on staying here much longer, I would change out the hardware on the cabinets and get new flooring, both of which I don’t see happening. But with the changes I’ve made, it’s more up to my personal standards with how I want to live, for now.
What are your thoughts on the photos above the kitchen cabinets? Is this something you would do?
Thank you for being here and I will see you in the next post.
