DIY FAUX STAINLESS STEEL – RENTAL HACK + APPLICATION TIPS!

DIY FAUX STAINLESS STEEL – RENTAL HACK + APPLICATION TIPS!

Hey guys! Today I’m going to be sharing with you how I transformed my ugly rental kitchen appliances into stainless steel using faux stainless steel vinyl paper. This isn’t like cheap, thin contact paper that you may have used in the past. No, no no.  When I removed this stainless steel it came off in one piece so this stuff is made so thick and durable.

DIY Refrigerator faux stainless steel application:

  • The first thing you want to do is remove your handles from your refrigerator.  Make sure you get rid of any grease, crumbs, etc…I used this ammonia-free multi-surface cleaner. You can sign up for Grove Collaborative and get a 5-piece Mrs Meyers cleaning set for free, here.
  • Clean your appliances. Remove any dust, dirt, grease, and funk from your appliances. Let it dry.
  • Measure your appliances and cut to the size you want-adding 2 inches on all 4 sides.
  • Stick it on your door and smooth it out. Don’t worry, it’s bubble resistant!
  • Wrap your appliances and using a boxcutter, trim off the excess.

DIY Stove application faux stainless steel:

The oven is a different application because it’s a smooth surface. You will need to wet it down with water using a spray bottle and follow the same steps from the refrigerator application. Use a lot of water so that it makes it easier to work with.

Make sure to leave at least 2 inches on each side / top and bottom so that you can wrap it around your appliance. Measure 2 -3 times, cut once.

Use a spray bottle on non-textured surfaces to make it easier to work with
