I’m not one to follow decorating trends in my own home because I have a very distinct style…it’s just me and what I personally love. Although I tend to gravitate towards Hollywood Regency and a bit Eclectic. It seems that my personal style hasn’t been “trending” for years, but this year things look like they may be different. Dark walls, bright colors, statement lighting, mixed metals and velvet are all going to be trending in 2017. You’re going to see these styles cross over into fashion, beauty, product and graphic design applications as well. I always like to take fashion trends (that I like) and incorporate them into my DIY’s so make sure to subscribe to my blog for exclusive DIY’s and home decorating tips.
Green
Pantones color of the year is GREENERY! Green is symbolic of new beginnings. Personally, I love this green. It’s fun, but not too loud. I love pairing it with mustard yellow, pinks, and blues. Here’s some color pairings that I love as an example.
Greenery is paired with neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels, and metallics so don’t get discouraged if you don’t like any of these color palettes.
Jeweled Tones
Jeweled tones were in last year, and they’re even bigger this year. (I’m so excited about this). I’ve always been obsessed with the rich jeweled tones in my home. This year we are going to see a lot of jewel tones statement pieces. How do you feel about it?
This may be extreme for some, but you can always incorporate jeweled tones in some decorative pillows and/or accents.
Mixed Metals

Do you mix your jewelry metals? It’s been a trend that’s been in for quite a while and we’re going to see more of it in 2017. I personally feel that it makes a home look more “lived in” and eclectic rather than a “show room” type feel. When every piece of furniture matches exactly it doesn’t give the space much personality.
Dark Walls
I know this is scary for a lot of you. Don’t be afraid, it really warms up a room and makes a dramatic statement. What I love most is how it makes all the other accents really pop. If you want to paint your walls black, but you need help with it, check out “How to Decorate with Black Walls”
Statement Lighting
Lighting makes a HUGE difference and this is something I suggest with all my clients. A big statement lighting is really just going to give that dramatic WOW when you walk into a room.
Velvet

Before I painted my couch pink, I had called an upholstery company because it was my dream to have a pink velvet couch. Velvet will always be one of my favorite textures. You can tie in three trends with a green, jeweled tone, velvet sofa or accent pillows!
Cork
We’re going to be seeing cork used in a plethora of ways in home decor this year.
Why? Because it’s inexpensive, durable, and fire resistant. This trend has been going on for quite a while but we’re going to see it become more widespread.
I think it’s always important to incorporate your OWN design style and always surround yourself with things you love, regardless if they’re trending or not. How do you feel about these trends?
