WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU PAINT YOUR COUCH (UDPATE+FAQ)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU PAINT YOUR COUCH (UDPATE+FAQ)

Hey guys, today I’m giving you guys an update on my DIY Painted Couch tutorial, if you haven’t seen that video, make sure you watch it after you read this post.  I had a lot of questions about whether or not it’s holding up, if the paint comes off onto clothing, and how much water/paint I used. I answer all those questions and give you additional tips and suggestions. This is everything you need to know BEFORE you paint your couch.

The first thing you need to  know before you paint your couch is that you can make your own DIY chalk paint. Did you know that you can make your own DIY Chalky paint?

It’s VERY easy, way cheaper, and this way, you can customize your furniture ANY color you want. Don’t feel limited by selecting your paint option by what’s already available. Make your own! I have the printable recipe here.

Before  you paint your upholstery, you have to understand that you’re not actually painting it. If you do this right, you’re dying your upholstery. This means you must use a TON of water.

Use a brush like this (it’ll work a lot better than the one I used) and work in sections ensuring that you completely saturate your upholstery. The reason why you want to use a lot of water is so that the fabric stays the same smooth texture. If you don’t use enough water, you will have a crunchy couch.

I would suggest starting on a part of the couch that you’re not going to see so what you can get a feel for it before you start tackling the front cushions. This way you can make sure you’re doing it right and getting enough water on the upholstery.

This will take several coats if you do it right. It is a time consuming project, but it’s so worth it in the end. What do you guys think? Is this something you’re going to do!?
