SMALL BATHROOM MAKEOVER + SMALL BUDGET

SMALL BATHROOM MAKEOVER + SMALL BUDGET

Hey guys! Today I’m showing you my small bathroom makeover. I did this on a tiny budget of less than $200 and I’m so incredibly happy with how it turned out! I was able to do whatever I wanted in this bathroom and it truly reflects who I am. I was able to solve a lot of  common problems that we had in this bathroom on a small budget. I hope this inspires you! I also have  a free printable available for you at the end of the post.

There wasn’t much storage and it just wasn’t functional for us. So I started off by creating the design that was going to be most functional and get the most floor space to maximize storage.

 BEFORE

I’m not even going to lie to you guys. I took these pictures with the intention of showing you all the ugly truth. I’m not going to sugar coat how bad it really is, this is was my life. I use this bathroom every day. I’m a girly-girl so I have lots of makeup and hair accessories…and I have a 6 year old who wears lots of bows and also has a lot of accessories. So, with the lack of cabinet and storage space there is nowhere to contain the mess. I didn’t even have a place to store extra towels. This bathroom needed a makeover, yesterday.

AFTER

I started by painting the whole bathroom white and getting all the measurements I needed. (linen cabinet, medicine cabinet + shower curtains).

Then I started by hand painting thousands of dalmatian spots which didn’t take as long as I thought it would. I found this indoor/outdoor rug at Hobby Lobby for 50% off. I love this little rug because it’s so easy to wash + it adds a nice pattern to the otherwise boring, generic floor.

BEFORE

Another issue we have had is the toilet paper holder was literally across the toilet. I had to place the toilet paper on the sink (pictured below) or behind the toilet because my daughter couldn’t reach it.

AFTER

I moved the toilet paper holder over next to the toilet into the vanity. Much more efficient.

I spray painted a lot of the existing hardware for an updated look, which is a great way to update your bathroom inexpensively.

I bought some white fabric shower curtains (2) from Amazon and then hand painted a black frame around them for some visual interest but still streamlined look.  It gave some nice height to the bathroom and gave it an extra POP without feeling too overwhelming.

 BEFORE

I was also not in love with this mirror. It’s very generic, unproportioned, and cheap-looking.

There was so much empty wall space that could be utilized with much needed storage space.

I knew I was going to put a linen cabinet on the left side of the sink + some sort of storage (that fit the required measurements) above the toilet.

AFTER

I hunted for days for something that would fit in the space between the wall and the vanity. I actually had a hard time finding this one. I saw a lot of linen cabinets that had see-through glass doors and although they looked nice, I knew it wouldn’t be functional for us. I wanted a linen cabinet to HIDE the stuff, not display it. The other linen cabinets I found were too short, not big enough, and were either too cheap looking or too expensive. I finally found this linen cabinet on Amazon. I don’t like making furniture purchases online, but after looking everywhere this seemed to be the best deal + fit what I needed. I’m really happy with it. It fit in the space perfectly and it is GREAT for storing all my stuff. I’ll show you how I organized it all soon.

I gotta get a wig head for my green wig that I love so much and I’m going to put it above the linen cabinet in place of that fake plant.

BEFORE

So much wall space wasn’t being utilized.

AFTER

I found this medicine cabinet at Habitat for Humanity ReStore. If you have one close to you I suggest taking a peek if you haven’t already. I went in with my desired measurements hoping to find something that would work above the toilet. There was so much wall space that wasn’t being utilized. I found this medicine cabinet and JJ + I painted it white (with chalky paint) – leaving the black back piece and hung it up. I love the black and white contrast! And I also love that I am utilizing the space, but could also showcase some decorative accent pieces for some pops of color.

I took the towel rack off the back of the door and hung up a generic (for now) door mirror. This space needed a full body mirror, it helps to open up the room as well.

BEFORE

Yeah, how is my daughter suppose to reach that towel rack? Why is it so high?

AFTER

I removed the old towel rack and replaced it with these cute anchor towel hooks I found at Target. They come with drywall anchors and screws making them really easy to install + secured onto the wall. I found the pink Betsey Johnson towels at Burlington.

The frames are from Walmart, they’re 11×14 matted to 8×10. Some of the photos in the frames are prints by Jennifer Bleem who is a local tattoo artist in Indianapolis. And I made the “Good Vibes Only” + you can get yours here.

.My daughter can actually reach the towels now omg.

Ohhh yes girrrrrl. And whenever I get bored with the prints I can change them out easily.

You can get your good vibes only print here.

I’m so happy with my new linen cabinet and all the extra storage I have now.

Decorating is never really “done” or “finished”. I plan on getting a new faucet, along with some other things (e.g. chandelier), but I think it all came together nicely for such a small budget
