Hey guys! Today I’m going to show you how I painted and reupholstered this chair. This project is easy peasy! I was scared to do this because I didn’t know how it was going to work out. I’ve NEVER reupholstered anything, EVER, in my life! The chairs have a metal frame with a circle cushion/seat. The chairs you attempt may be slightly different, but after inspecting some other chairs we have, it seems they are generally the same method. Some things may be different, but it’s pretty much the same concept.
I flipped the chair over to unscrew the seat cushion.
It popped out surprisingly easy.
The hardest part of redoing these chairs were deciding on the color/fabric. Because I LOVE so many different fun, bright colors and patterns!
I spray painted the frame…
And decided to do another chair, but I chose a different color.
I chose this upholstery fabric from JoAnn Fabrics.
I removed the existing staples
Lined my fabric up with the old fabric
Instead of measuring and guessing I just used the old fabric as a guide.
I placed the seat in the middle of my new fabric making sure it was covering all sides
And pulling really tightly I started stapling the fabric onto the cushion/seat. I found it easier to pull the bottom up-staple. Then, one staple on the top. Repeat on the sides-pull the fabric tightly-1 staple on the left, and 1 staple on the right. Then, work your way around the cushion, slightly overlapping them-while still pulling the fabric tightly and stapling to secure.
Did I really just do that? Who knew it would have been so easy!
Not really sure what that white paper stuff is called, but I stapled it back on to protect the fabric.
Then we screwed the screws back into the bottom. And…
Ta-da! I LOVE it!
Here’s the other one. SO HAPPY! What do you guys think?
This was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
