DIY COAT RACK PHOTO LEDGE

DIY COAT RACK PHOTO LEDGE

I’m redecorating my entry way and the first thing I made is this super rad (and inexpensive to make) DIY coat rack photo ledge. The reason I made this DIY coat rack photo ledge is because I couldn’t find anything that I liked online or in the store. As I started to decorate our small entryway, I knew we needed to utilize every inch of space in this very tiny small entryway. For it to be be functional for our needs, and lifestyle,  I needed a place to hang up our purses, jackets, and somewhere to put our keys, etc…

I also wanted to DIY a photo ledge so that I could put photos on the ledge, and easily change them out. I prefered a photo ledge rather than putting a bunch of holes in the wall. I came up with this design for the perfect DIY coat rack photo ledge in order to make use of this small entryway. This was the perfect solution for our small entry because it’s functional, the perfect size, and custom-made for this area.

I think it turned out even better than I thought it would. I love how it turned out. It looks like something I bought at the store (and I totally would have bought this if I saw it at the store) but I DIY’d this DIY coat rack photo ledge for less than $10. Can you even believe it?!?!  I’m absolutely in love with these crystal knobs.

I’m obsessed with these knobs. They are so beautiful and I’ve used them in a lot of my other DIY’s. because I can’t get enough of them! It was really hard to get a good picture of this area and this DIY coat rack photo ledge because as I said earlier, this space is so small. I also made this DIY foam poster board with items from Dollar Tree. I told ya’ll I was redecorating this space on a small budget and I wasn’t kidding!

MATERIALS

1x8x6′ long
1x4x4′ long
1x2x4′ long
Rainbow Crystal Knobs
9/64 drill bit
Drill Gun
Titebond Wood Glue
1 1/2 in. screws
Drywall Anchors
T-square
Speed Square
Tape Measure
Screwdriver
Wood clamps

DIRECTIONS

Cut all your wood the same length. I cut mine to 40″

Measure and mark where you want your shelf to go on the 1×8 using your T-square

Glue your 1×4 on the line where you marked it

Use your wood clamps to clamp it down into place

Wipe off excess glue

Make sure the shelf is straight using your level

While the glue is drying, measure and mark where you want your knobs

Using 9/64 drill bit, drill your pilot holes for where your knobs will go.

We glued the shelf into place, but we’re going to make sure it’s extra secure by screwing it into place (optional). So flip the board over, and drill your pilot holes into the back of your 1×8 into your ledge (1×4).

Screw your screws into the back to ensure a strong shelf

Now it’s time to add the ledge to your shelf. This way you can hang up pictures without them sliding off. Glue your 1×2 onto your shelf (1×4)

Clamp it into place making sure the bottom of the 1×2 is even with your shelf

Allow it to dry

Sand your wood making sure you get off all the wood glue

Stain or paint your wood

Hand screw your knobs into the wood

Drill pilot holes in your board so you can screw it up on the wall

And you’re done!
